San Cristóbal is considered to be the “cultural capital” of the state of Chiapas. Much of this culture is associated with the city’s and municipality’s large indigenous population, which is mostly made up of Tzotzils and Tzetzals. I spent most of my time photographing people. The city thrives on tourism. It is very common to see very young children helping their parents sell arts and crafts from the region. The city is peaceful but very safe. We spent three days here and wished we could have stayed longer. For me, San Cristóbal begs for a return visit. As a tourist, San Cristóbal is strategically located to take advantage of the many more tourists attractions the state of Chiapas has to offer. |
